Disclaimer

An estimate is not a quote, a guide is not engineering advice, and some work requires a professional. Read this before relying on a figure.

01Estimates, not quotes

Amounts are computed from published prices, production rates and typical quantities, for the chosen region and as of the price date. The real price depends on your site (soil, slope, access, drainage), the materials chosen, the season and the contractor. Only a written quote binds a contractor.

02Not engineering advice

The guides and calculations are neither a plan nor engineering advice. A tall or loaded retaining wall, a steep slope, clay soil or work near a foundation, a pool or a property line calls for the advice of an engineer who is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. Manufacturers also publish maximum heights without engineering.

03Electrical work

Any electrical work connected to the panel or at 120 V (outdoor outlets, a circuit for a transformer, a pump or an irrigation controller) must be done by a master electrician who is a member of the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ).

04Municipal permits

Many projects need a permit or must follow municipal rules: walls and fences, driveways and curb cuts, pool enclosures, tree removal, stormwater management, setbacks. Check with your municipality before you start. Before you dig, request a free locate from Info-Excavation.

05If you hire a contractor

In Quebec, a contractor must hold a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) for most work. Check the licence in the RBQ register, ask for a detailed written quote and a contract before paying a deposit.

06Prices, sources and photos

Every price carries its source, date and region; prices change and may be out of date. A product named is not a recommendation. The photos from Rinox and its dealers illustrate the projects, with their permission and credit; your project may differ.
